During the rehearsals for Pierre Grimblat's "Slogan", Serge Gainsbourg met the woman who would forever change his professional and personal life: Jane Birkin. They sang together for the first time on the film's theme-song, "The Slogan Song". After which, they recorded their version
of "Je t'aime moi non plus". The song became a huge success and set the 70's on fire. Together, they lived out one of the most beautiful love stories ever.

"B-blast", il nuovo album dei B-BLAST, è stato presentato ufficialmente Venerdì 22 Febbraio al Loop Cafè di Perugia. Da oggi è disponibile nei negozi prodotto da Elevator Records e distribuito da Jestrai.

Il primo singolo estratto dall'album è "5 Volte" ed il Video-Clip (Miglior Montaggio a Music ‘n Video 2007, Premio città di Foggia) verrà trasmesso nei prossimi giorni dalle migliori emittenti TV.

"B-blast" è il primo full lenght realizzato dalla band e contiene 11 canzoni di puro eterogeneo Rock Sperimentale che da sempre caratterizza lo stile dei B-BLAST.

Oltre al primo singolo “5 volte” (già disponibile in anteprima con il Video-Clip e su www.myspace.com/bblastband ), vanno segnalate il samba di “ Te quiero” con testo in spagnolo e la frenesia di “Self-Control” con testo in inglese. Already topping the IAC Hard Rock Charts and Cashbox Magazine Charts with their singles "Situations" and "Monster", Mind Drop is kicking ass and taking names. Mind Drop has been nominated for a 2008 IAIA Golden Kayak award for "Monster" which is the most prestigious award an unsigned band can acheive.

Comprised of Tim Bourbon (Vocals), Adam Deases (Guitar), Chris Ruzic (Bass) and Robert Bull (Drums), Mind Drop has already completed a three song EP with plans to release another four song EP this May. They can best be described as a mix of Nu Metal beat over the head by Old School Metal, but don't think that means they don't offer their own, unique mix to the hard rock/metal genre.

Sean Costello 1979 - 2008

It is with the deepest sadness that we issue this press release, and the news that Delta Groove recording artist Sean Costello passed away in Atlanta, GA on Tuesday, April 15th, one day before his 29th birthday. Sean was not only a member of the Delta Groove musical family, he was also a friend, and words cannot express the sorrow we feel at having to say goodbye so soon. As blues music fans, we unfortunately grow somewhat accustomed to the sadness of the inevitable passing of musical elders after long and fruitful careers. Losing someone as young, vibrant, and talented as Sean, who had accomplished so much in just a few short years and still had so much potential, is a terribly difficult blow, not only to those who knew him personally, but for the music community as a whole. He had been unanimously praised as one of the main torch-bearers of the blues flame for the coming generations, and now that potential will go sadly unfulfilled.

Costello was born in Philadelphia in 1979, moved with his family to Atlanta at the age of 9, and soon afterward picked up the guitar. Within a few short years he’d won the Memphis Blues Society’s new talent award, and was on the road with his own band. At age 17 he released his first album, “Call The Cops”, acclaimed by Real Blues Magazine as “an explosive debut.” He soon joined forces with fellow blues guitarist Susan Tedeschi, with whom he toured and recorded, laying down tasteful lead guitar work on her Gold-certified Tone-Cool debut “Just Won’t Burn”.

In 2000, Costello released “Cuttin’ In” on Landslide Records, which earned him critical acclaim as well as a prestigious W. C. Handy Award nomination for ‘Best New Artist Debut.’ With 2002’s “Moanin’ For Molasses”, also on Landslide, came a Blues Revue cover story touting Costello as “the top contender to be the next blues star - and soon.” Costello’s hometown paper The Atlanta Journal-Constitution called his guitar playing “masterful” and of “remarkable maturity.” The paper also compared him to such legends as B. B. King, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

In 2005, his self-titled fourth CD “Sean Costello” was released by Artemis Records. Produced by Steve Rosenthal (The Rolling Stones, Suzanne Vega, Freedy Johnston), it was an appealing blend of soul, funk, upbeat rock. He was joined by some very special guests: Levon Helm of The Band sits in on two tracks, as does his daughter, Amy Helm, with her group, Ollabelle. Steve Jordan, Willie Weeks and the Conan O’Brien horn section also appear.

Sean’s Delta Groove debut CD “We Can Get Together”, just released in February, was produced by Costello himself. He was justly proud of “We Can Get Together”, calling it the best work he’d ever done, and the critics agreed, with excellent reviews from radio and press alike lauding it his most impressive and mature work to date.

Costello was fortunate enough to earn the respect and admiration of many of his own idols, and had the opportunity to perform with his mentors. He shared stages with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins, and Bo Diddley among many others. He recently said, “All I’ve ever wanted to do was play the guitar well. I’ve been fortunate to be able to make a living doing it, and I plan to keep it up for the rest of my life.”

Rand Chortkoff and Robert Fitzpatrick, the CEO and President respectively of Delta Groove Music, issued the following joint statement: "Sean Costello was a genius. He was destined to go down in music history as a blues legend. His musical legacy will live on through his music forever. Two great prog rock classics from MoonJune Records

Compelling Indonesian electro-acoustic progressive jazz-fusion with a distinctive cultural bent. For its first international release Jakarta-based simakDialog delivers Patahan, a live recording that suggests how Pat Metheny might sound were he from the Far East rather than the United States.

A combination of electric and acoustic instruments, the 14 year-old group is innovatively propelled by two percussionists rather than a conventional drummer, but the result is no less powerful. Keyboardist/composer Riza Arshad, guitarist Tohpati and bassist Adhhitya join vocalist Nyak Ina Raseuki and percussionists Endang Ramdam and Emy Tata for five lengthy, episodic and finely detailed compositions that create a unique nexus of jazz and less-traveled ethnicity.

Expansive solos, rich harmonies, telling interplay and propulsive rhythms make Patahan a genre-busting album that demands to be heard.

First two DFA’s critically acclaimed cult albums “Lavori In Corso” (1996) and “Duty Free Area” (1999) remastered and including 3 live bonus tracks.

With two critically-acclaimed albums - now reissued as one double-CD package with bonus live material - under their belts, DFA have proven themselves one of Italy's leading lights in the new generation of progressive rock bands that appeared in the wake of the genre's 1990s revival. With fifteen years of experience and live appearances across the globe, they are now ready to confirm their status with their highly anticipated third studio effort.

Formed in Verona during 1991 around Alberto De Grandis, drummer, occasional vocalist and main composer, and bassist Luca Baldassari, DFA was initially an instrumental keyboard-led trio, a formula that evolved over the years, first with the arrival of guitarist Silvio Minella in 1993, and two years later with the introduction of vocal parts in the compositions, following the release of a demo tape entitled Trip On Metro.

Later in 1995, Alberto Bonomi replaced the original keyboard player and DFA found its definitive shape. Bonomi was soon to become an essential creative force in the band alongside De Grandis, co-writing most of the material with him. The new quartet made its live debut in January 1996, and soon afterwards embarked on the recording of their first proper album.

Alberto Piras, the frontman of fellow Italian proggers Deus Ex Machina, had heard the demo tape, and offered to produce the album for his own label, Scolopendra. By 1996 Lavori In Corso ("works in progress") was ready, and was soon greeted by many favourable reviews. A staff writer for the respected US new music publication Exposé called the album "an absolute masterpiece of complex progressive rock". The high level of musicianship and the attention to detail in the compositions and arrangements - which drew comparisons with luminaries such as Gentle Giant, National Health, Gong, Banco or Weather Report - helped to make Lavori In Corso a natural candidate for a lot of "Best Of '97" lists among fans of the genre.

During the following months, DFA's profile as a live band increased, supporting the likes of Italian veterans Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso and Le Orme. Meanwhile, work started on new material, and by June 1999 the quartet was finally back in the studio to record the eagerly-awaited follow-up to Lavori In Corso, which saw the light of day the following October on Italian Mellow Records - its title, Duty Free Area, finally revealing what the three letters stood for. "We liked the idea of an area free from all constraints", explained Bonomi, "where we can play what we feel".

With their second work, DFA broadened their musical palette with new sounds, especially in the keyboard department (occasionally bringing to mind Ozric Tentacles), and further perfected their craftmanship, both as composers and players. Critics unanimously acclaimed Duty Free Area as a major progression from the already excellent Lavori In Corso, particularly in terms of melodic accessibility and overall coherence of the often fiendishly complex epic compositions masterminded by De Grandis and Bonomi.

Another significant improvement on Lavori In Corso was to be found in the vocals, arguably not DFA's forte. A larger percentage of the music was instrumental (showcasing the breathtaking interplay between Minella's guitar and Bonomi's keyboards), the one track sung by De Grandis (with backing by Bonomi) was ideally suited to his range, and the other two pieces with vocals used guests - Alberto Piras and female singer Giorgia Gallo. All in all, Duty Free Area could be called a success in all departments : little could be improved upon.

DFA's watershed appearance at NEARfest in June 2000 was documented on a best-selling live CD, brining together the best of both albums and proving that the band was able to "pull it off" on stage like the best of them ! Invitations to other foreign festivals and venues duly followed, in France, Mexico, Belgium and Italy. Meanwhile, DFA started work on their next album, aiming at breaking away from existing musical categories (such as progrock, jazz-rock, etc.) and further establishing the unique DFA identity. This long process is now over, and the band is about to start recording with a view to releasing the album in January 2007, following it up with festival appearances and concerts worldwide.

The Return of Arti&Mestieri

Outstanding 7-piece progressive jazz-rock band from Italy. All the power delivered by the spectacular insane drumming of Furio Chirico (often compared to Billy Cobham) and magnificent analog keyboards of maestro Beppe Crovella (Mellotron, Hammond, Mini Moog, Fender Rhodes, acoustic piano), counter-pointed by the beautiful violin passages, killer sax lines, wonderful guitar work, robust bass and challenging vocals.

Captured live in Kawasaki/Tokyo, during the Japan tour in June of 2005, this 76 minutes album includes most of the material from their two legendary cult albums “Tilt” (1974) and “Giro Di Valzer Per Domani” (1975) with few newer compositions. In the vein and league of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever, Mothers Of Invention, mid ‘70s Soft Machine, King Crimson and Gong.

Celebrating the 33rd anniversary of its inception in 2007 with a new album, a DVD, a tour and a special concert with guests, arti & mestieri has long been hailed as one of the truly essential Italian progressive rock bands. With its high-calibre musicianship and unique mixture of rock, classical and jazz elements, angular harmonies and unexpected rhythmic figures, its music stands as a timeless example of the best one can expect from the meeting of prog rock and jazz fusion.

arti & mestieri came into being in Turin, late 1973, when keyboardist Beppe Crovella (from The Mystics) and drummer Furio Chirico (from The Trip) got together with bassist Marco Gallesi (from Il Sogno Di Archimede), guitarist Gigi Venegoni, violinist Giovanni Vigilar and sax/vibist Arturo Vitale. At first calling themselves just Arti, they immediately attracted interest from Gianni Sassi, manager of the Cramps label, and Franco Mamone, PFM's manager, with their debut performance at the Festival Del Proletariato Giovanile in Parco Lambro (the Italian Woodstock !) in June 1974, which left both the critics and 45,000-strong audience breathless.

The next couple of years were like a whirlwind - they quickly recorded their first, largely instrumental, album, Tilt, in Rome, and promoted it with relentless touring, supporting the likes of PFM and Gentle Giant in sold-out theatres all around the country. In 1975, they again appeared at Parco Lambro and, with the addition of singer Gianfranco Gaza, recorded their second album Giro Di Valzer Per Domani. This was followed by extensive touring with labelmates Area and - sadly unfruitful - contacts with ELP's Manticore label.

By 1976, this heavy schedule had taken its toll and arti & mestieri entered a turbulence zone. This first manifested itself (after recording one last track together, "Necropoli") with the departures of Marco Gallesi and Gigi Venegoni (who went on to form his own group, Venegoni & Co). Without a guitarist, but with new bassist Gigi Fregapane, they toured Southern Italy, and started work on their third album, but it remained unfinished as the band collapsed for good. Beppe Crovella formed Mock-Ups, in a similar fusion/prog vein, while Furio Chirico joined forces with Gallesi in a new band, recording the album Quinto Stato which, following record company pressures, was released under the name arti & mestieri although this wasn't their initial intention. Chirico went on to front other arti & mestieri line-ups into the 1980s, with no other original members but with young up-and-coming jazz musicians, including trumpeter Flavio Boltro (now an international jazz star), recording two further albums, Acquario and Children's Corner.

Renewed interest in the band following CD reissues of their 1970s albums (there have so far been six reprints !) led to a reformation of arti & mestieri in 1999 with five of the six original members - Beppe Crovella on keyboards, Furio Chirico on drums, Gigi Venegoni on guitar, Marco Gallesi on bass and Arturo Vitale on sax, with Marco Cimino (who had played on Quinto Stato) on second keyboards 'replacing' Giovanni Vigliar (singer Gianfranco Gaza died in 1986). Vitale left after the first few gigs and was replaced by violinist Corrado Trabuio, and the resulting line-up recorded the 'comeback' album Murales, which stood stylistically somewhere between their classic sound and modern fusion.

The reunion concerts were documented on one half of the double-CD Live 1974/2000 which also included a vintage concert from their peak years. Since then there have been several personnel changes, which saw Crovella and Chirico remain at the helm with newcomers. The current line-up consists of Roberto Cassetta on bass, Marco Roagna on guitar, Alfredo Ponissi on sax/flute, Iano Nicolo on vocals and teen-age prodigy Lautaro Acosta on violin, and the band's sound and approach has moved closer to the classic arti & mestieri 1970s style. To mark their first-ever US appearance, at ProgDay festival in 2003, they released a mini-CD of the same name, followed in 2004 by a memorable performance at the Baja Prog festival in Mexico.

In 2005, a new CD, Estrazioni, was published. It is a mixture of new versions of old tunes along with new compositions. This was celebrated with a repeat appearance at Baja Prog and the band's first-ever Japanese dates in June 2005. Later that year they took part in two major Italian festivals, Sesto and 70s Flowers, the latter being filmed for a possible DVD release. In parallel with their arti & mestieri activities, Crovella, Chirico and Cassetta have also performed in Japan in 2006 as a power trio under the monicker C3. Now they are busy conceiving and recording the band's new album, which is expected for release in late 2007.

On April 17, 2007, the iconic rock group Heart took the stage at The Orpheum Theatre in front of a live audience to perform their spectacular debut album Dreamboat Annie in its entirety for the first time, for a DIRECTV special. Lois Maxwell Dies

Lois Maxwell, who starred as Miss Moneypenny in 14 James Bond movies, has died, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported Sunday. She was 80.

The Canadian-born actress starred alongside Sean Connery in the first James Bond movie, "Dr. No," in 1962 as the secretary to M, the head of the secret service. She died Saturday night at Fremantle Hospital near her home in Perth, Australia, the BBC cited a hospital official as saying.

Bond star Roger Moore said she was suffering from cancer. "It's rather a shock," Moore, who had known her since they were students at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1944, told BBC radio. "She was always fun and she was wonderful to be with," he said.

Born Lois Hooker in Ontario, Canada, in 1927, she began her acting on radio before moving to Britain with the Entertainment Corps of the Canadian army at the age of 15, the BBC said.

In the late 1940s, she moved to Hollywood and won a Golden Globe for her part in the Shirley Temple comedy "That Hagen Girl."

After working in Italy, she returned to Britain in the mid-1950s.

In addition to her 14 appearances as Miss Moneypenny, she also acted in Stanley Kubrick's "Lolita" and worked on TV shows including "The Saint,""The Baron, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)," and "The Persuaders!," the BBC said.

She was 58 when she appeared in her final Bond film, 1985's "A View To A Kill." She was replaced by 26-year-old Caroline Bliss for "The Living Daylights."

Her last film was a 2001 thriller called "The Fourth Angel," alongside Jeremy Irons.

Blood Red Blu-Ray!

Starz Home Entertainment/Anchor Bay Entertainment will release the first season of Masters Of Horror on Blu-Ray Disc in September.

The release will consist of four BD-50 discs containing all the 15 season 1 episodes in 1080p high definition video. Currently plans are to provide uncompressed PCM 5.1 audio tracks with the release but that may change, depending on the storage availability on the final discs.

The set will also contain some – though not all – of the bonus materials found on the individual DVD releases of the episodes.

In addition to “Masters Of Horror” there will be other Blu-Ray titles from Anchor Bay scheduled for Halloween: John Carpenter’s Halloween, Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead II and George A. Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead and Day Of The Dead, to be released on Blu-Ray some time in September or early October.

Anchor Bay has not yet announced full details and specs on these releases but from what we've been hearing, expect DVD extras to carry over as well as uncompressed audio tracks on these movies. Since anchor Bay is well known for giving fans a treat, I think it is a safe best that these Blu-Ray Discs won't disappoint either. Stay tuned for more details.

The story of Area 39

This album from Area 39 is an intriguing listen, blending electronic and progressive music with spoken word, voice samples from NASA archives and soaring female vocals, powerful rock guitar with subtle keyboards, all underpinned with some thoughtful and where necessary dramatic and powerful drumming.

The album tells a story in a subtle yet dramatic way, from the dreamy, gentle opener, “The Dreamer Dreams” through the full on rock of “Through the Eye of a Telescope”, to the conspiratorial closer, “The Dreamers Dreamed”, the album takes you on a dramatic journey of discovery, wonder, and possible conspiracy.

Ray Turrell, whose ideas developed into the Area 39 project, is joined on the album by John Gosberg (Keyboards), Wayne Sowden (Drums), Gavin Fletcher (Guitar), Paula Cunningham, David Roy and Nicki Allan on vocals, they have contributed in their own way to an album of cleverly blended rock, progressive rock and electronic style music.

MIKE WIERINGO PASSES AWAY

The comics industry lost a luminary this weekend - Mike Wieringo passed away Sunday of a sudden heart attack. Details are still sketchy as of this time, but according to close sources, the acclaimed artist had chest pains at some point during the day and called 911, but the responders did not make it in time.

Wieringo was 44 years old. He was a vegetarian, and "one of the healthiest ones of us in the bunch," as his longtime friend and collaborator Todd Dezago described him. Currently, there are no details about services or a funeral.

Wieringo worked every day, updating his blog and website with a constant stream of sketches at MikeWieringo.com. His last sketch was posted on Friday.

I had to keep the sketch pretty quick today if I was going to get it done and posted at all. I spent the morning with an electrical contractor here at the house. I’ve been having trouble with my heating and air conditioning unit switching its breaker off during the height of the heat of the day the past few afternoons (and for those of you in the southeast dealing with these 100-plus degree days, you know just how sweltering and oppressive this week has been). As it turns out, my entire wiring setup outside is horribly old and doesn’t meet code. It also contains quite a bit of aluminum wiring– which the contractor tells me is very dangerous and not in use anymore. So I got the great news that it’s going to cost me thousands of dollars to bring everything back up to code…. and not have the danger of causing a fire at any point as well. Ah, the joys of being a homeowner….!

I’ve had several folks inquire about my 2007 sketchbook and whether it would be for sale here on the site. Steven Gettis has set up a store link in the PERSONAL section of the column at the right for selling the sketchbook and prints I’ve produced. So anyone interested in the things offered there, I’ve got a PayPal account set up to handle the sales that way.

Mike

Wieringo was born June 24th, 1963 in Venice, Italy, and first caught the attention of comic book fans when he joined writer Mark Waid on DC's The Flash with issue #80 in 1993. Together, the two co-created the character Impulse, the future speedster brought back to the present. Wieringo (or, 'Ringo as he was better known by then) moved on to Robin at DC, and then moved to Marvel, where he settled in on Sensational Spider-Man with writer Todd DeZago.

The pairing with DeZago was something of fate, as the two co-created and launched their creator-owned property Tellos, which saw several projects and miniseries published over the years. Ringo moved back to DC for a run on Adventures of Superman, and then, in 2002, reunited with Waid for a run on Fantastic Four that was perhaps best known for fan outcry when Marvel announced that they were going to replace the team. Marvel quickly reversed their decision, and the two completed their run on the series.

Ringo then moved to Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man with writer Peter David, and most recently, completed a Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four miniseries written by Jeff Parker. His next project had not been announced, although, as readers of his blog knew, he was very excited at the prospect of doing more Tellos work, with an eye on being able to debut something at next month's Baltimore Comic-Con.

Mike was a regular face at East Coast conventions for years, and was known to both fans and pros as one of the friendliest, and most approachable guys in comics. Heck, he was, I think, the first "pro" I ever met, back when he had just started drawing Flash. I remember asking him for a sketch at a small convention in High Point, North Carolina, he said, "Sure - what of?" And I told him it had to be the Flash - but not with the mask on, with the mask pulled back, showing Wally West. Mike looked thoughtful for a few minutes, gave me a look, and got to drawing. A few minutes later, he gave me the sketch (still framed and in my office) and I thanked him. It wasn't until later that my wife pointed out that he'd drawn me in the mask, instead of Wally. That's the kind of cool guy Mike was. And with the North Carolina comics community being pretty tight-knit, Mike and I got to be pretty good friends after that. He was a great friend, and a friend of the site - all too happy to help out years back when Mike Doran and I needed headshots for the then-version of Newsarama. We looked a little dorky, but I think that was Mike making a little joke that included all of us.

He loved what he did.

Com As Próprias Mãos 3 – Vingança Solitária (Walking Tall: Lone Justice - 2007) é outra novidade que a Sony Pictures Home Entertainment reservou do gênero ação para locação a partir de 09 e 10 de outubro. Kevin Sorbo (Com As Próprias Mãos 2 - O Troco, programa de TV “Hercules”) estrela nesta alucinante seqüência. Depois de ter limpado o crime de sua cidade natal, Nick (Sorbo) se aposenta deixando de ser o xerife da cidade e segue para Dallas. Lá ele pretende começar uma nova vida com uma agente do FBI e sua filha de 12 anos. No entanto, ele vai se encontrar no meio de uma guerra sem poder confiar em ninguém e ele fará de tudo para restabelecer a ordem na nova cidade.

Já o drama, Reine Sobre Mim (Reign Over Me - 2007), que poderá ser achado nas locadoras a partir dos dias 17 e 18 de outubro, conta a emocionante história sobre Charlie Fineman que entrou em depressão logo após a morte de sua esposa e filhos. O filme conta com Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith e Liv Tyler. A vida de Charlie (Sandler) melhora muito depois de reencontrar por acaso um antigo amigo de faculdade, Alan Johnson (Cheadle), cuja vida está dividida entre o trabalho e a família. O reencontro dos amigos fortaleceu o antigo e esquecido vínculo de amizade e os dois passaram a viver melhor emocionalmente.

O Albergue – Edição de Luxo (Hostel DE - 2006) estará disponível para compra a partir de 17 e 18 de outubro. Apresentado por Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2), escrito e dirigido por Eli Roth (Cabana do Inferno), O Albergue é um filme chocante e brutal sobre dois norte-americanos (Jay Hernandez de Tudo pela Vitória e Derek Richardson de Debi e Lóide 2 - Quando Debi Conheceu Lóide) que viajam de mochila nas costas pela Europa e acabam se tornando vítimas de um negócio de morte por lucro. Outro terror que promete não ficar muito tempo nas prateleiras das lojas é Resident Evil 2: Apocalipse – Edição de Luxo (Resident Evil: Apocalipse DE - 2004). Depois de escapar com grande dificuldade dos horrores das instalações subterrâneas da Hive, Alice (Milla Jovovich) é empurrada de volta para a guerra feroz entre os vivos e os não-mortos. Em Crimes No Paraíso 2 (Jesse Stone: Death In Paradise - 2006). Tom Selleck é o chefe de polícia Jesse Stone da cidade de Paradise, Massachusetts. Ele investiga o brutal assassinato de uma adolescente problemática encontrada morta boiando em um lago da cidade e logo descobre que a garota era uma estudante exemplar e que, de alguma maneira, acabou no caminho da autodestruição, o que eventualmente levou à morte prematura. Gnosis is a Greek word for cognition, the whole hipgnosis word has an obvious association and it is also a clue for SsaweQ's (bandleader) greatest music fascination.

HIPGNOSIS was founded in 2004. From March to September 2005 the group was recording its debut album in SsaweQ's friend's studio. They had the possibility to work on the material for as long as they needed it until the effect was satisfying.

Hipgnosis want their music to be listened to by people who will appreciate it and who will come to their concerts to enjoy its sound.

"SKY IS THE LIMIT" lasts 41 minutes and is "divided" into sides 1 and 2 as a good old vinyl LP. "Side 1" contains gentle songs with a female voice, "side 2" contains music with more power and rock beat, partially sung by a man. The additional material was released as a limited edition CD single entitled "EP".

World of Warcraft - The Movie!

Yes, it's going to happen. BlizzCon 2007 gave the site Warcraft the first solid and interesting information with regards to the WoW. Thomas Tull, producer of 300, stated a budget of over $100m would be committed, with a projected 2009 release date. Legendary Pictures are 100% committed to this project, it shall be a “tent-pole”, something to stand next to and say “we did that!” - whilst remaining true to the game and fan base.

The plot for the film will take place approximately a year before the start of World of Warcraft, including races you have played and lands you have wandered in, where lots of plot arcs are melded into a two and a half hour story. The film itself will revolve around a ‘badass’ new hero, with a theme towards conflict and culture - being a War Movie rather than a quest movie, from an Alliance’s perspective.

“It’s actually not like the great adventure. It’s not so much a quest movie. It’s more of a war movie. Well, okay, it’s absolutely a war movie. Cultures grinding up to a horrible moment where it just all spills over and gets out of control. Less of an adventure party quest-type situation. More of an armies building to an inevitable conclusion type situation.”

No director or cast have yet been assigned to the project and Tull stated that recognizable actors to play main roles was not a necessity. “We are starting those conversations. We’re going to be looking for someone of Zak Snyder (300) or Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight, Batman Begins) calibre,”

Velvet Revolver chega às lojas com “Libertad”

A passagem do Velvet Revolver por terras brasileiras, em maio deste ano, só serviu para aquecer os motores para o lançamento do segundo disco da banda. Batizado de “Libertad”, o álbum apresenta 13 faixas e o destaque fica por conta da “She Builds Quick Machines”. O clipe deste primeiro single já está disponível nas paradas nacionais.

A banda é formada por Slash e Dave Kushner nas guitarras, solo e base respectivamente, Duff McKagan no baixo, Matt Sorum na bateria e Scott Weiland, que atua nos vocais como um verdadeiro “frontman”, unindo talento ao seu temperamento explosivo.

Scorpions fazem shows em Manaus, Recife e São Paulo

The shoot took 18 hours and Britney managed to piss off every crew member by leaving for an hour to get a massage. And then she got another one. A massage. For an hour. “She was completely uncooperative and left everyone hanging about when she went for an hour’s massage — twice. She just didn’t want to cooperate and was snotty and rude to everyone — behaving like a complete and utter spoilt brat. When she wasn’t pissing people off, Britney was smoking like a chimney. She didn’t eat or drink anything other than can after can of Red Bull. She could have drank 20 of them all told.’

R.I.P. Ingmar Bergman and Michel Serrault

Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman has died, local media reported Monday. He was 89 years old. Bergman died at his home in Faro, Sweden, Swedish news agency TT said, citing his daughter Eva Bergman.

Through more than 50 films, Bergman's vision encompassed all the extremes of his beloved Sweden: the claustrophobic gloom of unending winter nights, the gentle merriment of glowing summer evenings and the bleak magnificence of the island where he spent his last years.

Bergman, who approached difficult subjects such as plague and madness with inventive technique and carefully honed writing, became one of the towering figures of serious filmmaking. He was "probably the greatest film artist, all things considered, since the invention of the motion picture camera," Woody Allen said in a 70th birthday tribute in 1988.

French actor Michel Serrault, whose performance as a transvestite in the film and screen versions of "La cage aux folles" (The Birdcage) catapulted him to international stardom, has died, his priest said Monday. He was 79. Serrault died Sunday of cancer in his home in the northwestern city of Honfleur, Rev. Alain Maillard de La Morandais said.

Serrault appeared in more than 130 films during a career that spanned half a century. After debuting as a comic actor, Serrault became one of France's most versatile stars, playing a serial killer, a grizzled farmer, a crooked banker and accused rapist. "I'm against those who only want to entertain," Serrault said in 2002. "I am very happy with all the roles I've played, and I take responsibility for them all."

French President Nicolas Sarkozy paid homage to Serrault's "impressive filmography," calling the actor a "monument of the world of the theater, the cinema and the television."

He made his silver screen debut in 1954 in Jean Loubignac's "Ah! les belles bacchantes" (Oh, the lovely bacchantes), which was released as "Peek-a-boo" in the United States. His first big break came in 1972, with a leading role in Pierre Tchernia's "Le Viager" (The Life Annuity). But it was his role as flamboyant gay nightclub owner Albin Mougeotte, also known as Zaza Napoli, in the theater and film versions of the mega-hit "La cage aux folles" (The Birdcage) that catapulted him to fame worldwide. His performance in director Edouard Molinaro's 1978 movie won him the first of three Cesar awards - the French version of the Oscar.

Serrault remained active, featuring in films through his late seventies. Among his final films was Pierre Javaux's 2006 "Les enfants du pays" (Hometown Boys), about the role of African soldiers in WWII.

Serrault is survived by his wife, Juanita, and daughter, Nathalie.

BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT

Metaleiro é considerado doente por causa de gosto musical

Na Suécia, um fã de heavy metal foi considerado incapaz de trabalhar como uma pessoa normal por causa de seu gosto musical. Roger Tullgren, de 42 anos, vai receber uma ajuda mensal em dinheiro do governo e trabalhará sob condições especiais.

Depois de perder diversos trabalhos por ter sua vida dominada pelo metal, Tullgren foi submetido a uma série de testes psicológicos. Após essas análises, ele foi classificado pelo governo sueco como uma pessoa doente e incapacitada. Com isso, o serviço responsável por amparar os desempregados no país decidiu pagar um salário ao metaleiro e encontrou para ele um chefe compreensivo: Tullgren acaba de conseguir um emprego como lavador de pratos em um restaurante no qual terá direito a se vestir como quiser, ouvir som alto e sair mais cedo para assistir aos shows que tiver vontade.

Fã de Black Sabbath, Roger conta que, para seguir o metal, já perdeu ou abandonou diversos empregos no passado. Segundo ele, apenas em 2006 ele assistiu a quase 300 shows do estilo, muitos deles em horário de expediente. "Algumas pessoas dizem que eu deveria crescer e aprender a ouvir outros tipos de música, mas eu não consigo. Heavy metal é meu estilo de vida", conclui.

A personagem será uma "caipira moderna" que, com seus amiguinhos, a Turminha do Bem, irá ajudar a salvar o mundo fantástico de Mirabilis - o nome do mundo foi inspirado na flor que Siri usou nos cabelos durante todo o "BBB7".

Histórias da Sirizinha estarão no site oficial da personagem. Ainda não há previsão de lançamento de revista em quadrinhos.

Os criadores da Sirizinha negociam o licenciamento da personagem com fabricantes de brinquedo e de material escolar.

Além da Sirizinha, também foi criada a Sirizinha Baby, que poderá aparecer em "flashbacks" da Sirizinha.

Britney Spears Will Help Sell Some OK! Magazines

The folks over at OK! Magazine have released a surprising statement stating they will publish their disastrous interview/photoshoot with Britney Spears without their usual sugarcoat. This is a first for OK!, a magazine that routinely paints celebrities in a positive light and go as far as to protect them from embarrassment. Britney Spears has broken that curse. TMZ reports:

In an exclusive statement to TMZ, OK! Editor-in-Chief Sarah Ivens said, "OK! Magazine spent a heartbreaking day with Britney Spears and witnessed first-hand an emotional cry for help that will leave you shocked and sad. This week, on newsstands Friday, the truth will be told."

"Britney had a complete and total meltdown during the interview and photo shoot. OK! was faced with a huge decision; to run the horrifying photos as is and risk ruining their relationship with Brit (and potentially her career), or run a sanitized - and untrue - article."

Please keep in mind that Britney Spears called OK! herself and arranged this interview intending for it to be a "set the record straight" kind of thing.

And this is what happened.

According to multiple sources, Britney's behavior during the interview was "nothing less than a meltdown." She was, according to our sources, "completely out of it" during the shoot. The photos are "so bad" we've learned, that to publish them could "kill her career." Apparently, Brit Brit's eyes rolled back in her head at one point, causing her to look half dead. Her mood, we're told, was extremely erratic. She took frequent bathroom breaks our source says, and each time she returned her mood would change. She was also completely paranoid during the entire interview, fearing at one point the ceiling was about to cave in on her.

We've also learned that Brit had some issues with hygiene on the set as well. At one point, Britney ordered up some fried chicken to munch on. We're told after she chowed down, she wiped her hands on a several thousand dollar Gucci dress that she was wearing for the shoot, staining it with grease. Yuck!

One of her dogs also needed some assistance in the housebreaking department. Our on-set spy says that the dog pooped all over the floor, and Brit used (what else?) a Chanel dress to clean it up! How trashtastic!

As for how Brit looked for the photos, another nightmare. We've learned that OK! hired two of the best hair and makeup artists in L.A. to transform the once-bald beauty into something more presentable, but she wasn't havin' none of that. She refused to let the hired help touch her, opting instead for her "skanky friends" to do her hair and makeup. No wonder she always looks so fantastic!

And if you're wondering where her mom/publicist/lawyer/friend/ANYONE was to help her out, we're told that even her cousin Alli (who until recently was working as her personal assistant) couldn't deal, and is "done" with Miss Spears."

Jesus, Britney had time to plan for this thing and it still ended up a complete mess. In two years, a government report will list the most likely victim of a hate crime as "Britney Spears fan."

Lohan Booked for DUI/Cocaine Possession

The Associated Press is reporting that Lindsay Lohan was arrested a block away from the Santa Monica Police Department early this morning on two misdemeanor charges of suspicion of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license, and two felony charges of possession of cocaine.

According to the AP, authorities received a call around 1:30 a.m. from the mother of the former personal assistant of Lohan who was traveling in a black Cadillac Escalade SUV. The mother reported that they were being chased by a white Denali SUV, apparently unaware that it was Lohan who was pursuing them. The personal assistant had quit her position with Lohan several hours before.

Police encountered both SUVs, and two people in a "heated debate," in the Santa Monica Civic Center parking lot, recognizing the driver of the Denali as Lohan. Lohan failed a standard field sobriety test (after reportedly refusing to take the Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device -- California's Breathalyzer -- used to determine alcohol levels in the bloodstream). According to the AP during pre-booking, cocaine was reportedly found in one of Lohan's pants pockets. A breath test was subsequently conducted revealing Lohan's blood alcohol to be between .12 percent and .13 percent. California's legal limit is 0.08 percent.

Just last week Lohan had turned herself into police to face drunk driving charges for a May 26th incident where she lost control of her Mercedes SL-65 and crashed into a curb on Sunset Boulevard. Lohan fled the scene, getting into a second car, which took her to a hospital in Century City for minor injuries, where police tracked her down. Her blood alcohol level was above the legal limit then as well and she still faces a hit-and-run misdemeanor charge in that case.

Lohan then spent most of June in Promises Malibu Alcohol and Drug Rehab Treatment Facility. She checked out less than two weeks ago on July 13th outfitted with an alcohol-monitoring bracelet. It was unclear whether Lohan was wearing her bracelet at the time of her arrest this morning.

The June stint at Promises was Lohan's second acknowledged visit to a drug and alcohol treatment center; the last took place in January.

Lohan was later released Tuesday morning on $25,000 bail.

Jon Favreau Gives Iron Man Update

Iron Man director Jon Favreau has posted an update on his MySpace page talking about Comic-Con, the story and possible cameos:

First of all, as you probably already know, there is not a teaser trailer on the front of Transformers as many of you had hoped and speculated. We are, however, planning to reveal something very cool very soon. This month, in fact. In San Diego. We've secured a prime slot Saturday afternoon in the big room at SDCC. We will split an hour with Marvel and Hulk and plan to cut something together to reward the fans for their interest, support and patience. In addition to our Saturday afternoon presentation, we will be doing a signing and poster giveaway at the Marvel booth on Saturday. Paramount is also doing a rundown of its slate on Thursday which I will do my best to attend as well.

Second of all, you had questions about Iron Monger/Mandarin/Obadiah Stane. My response is read the books. We took certain liberties to keep things fresh and unexpected but we are essentially using the books to inspire our story. Iron Man fans should have no problem piecing together what's what. As far as what villians appear in this movie's storyline, I should reiterate that in the year spent developing our story we decided to treat Iron Man as a first chapter. We cover the origin story and the rise of the hero. It stands alone as a movie, but definitely leaves room for more to be told. Sequels often feel like the story was slapped together in a scramble to exploit a successful franchise. I prefer when stories are mapped out in advance. They feel less repetitive and arbitrary. Additional Iron Man movies are by no means guaranteed but, if we are lucky enough to do more, we will be ready to do them well.

Third. Cameos. I've read that Sam Jackson and Hilary Swank are Shield agents and that I myself play a Vegas security guard. There is no truth to any of these rumors. (Well, maybe one is true.)

UPDATE: Avi Arad has confirmed to MTV that Samuel L. Jackson and Hilary Swank will indeed make cameo appearances in Iron Man. Nothing else about their roles is revealed. Superhero Hype! has also learned that you can see the actual "Mark I" suit from the movie worn by Robert Downey Jr. at the Marvel booth at Comic-Con this week. The suit was created at Stan Winston Studio.

O aclamado ator John Hurt (ALIEN - O Oitavo Passageiro) se uniu ao elenco da quarta aventura de INDIANA JONES, de Steven Spielberg. MAIS FILMES DE SHREK NO HORIZONTE

Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO da DreamWorks Animation, confirmou que a DWA planeja produzir mais dois filmes da série SHREK. "É um história finita, foi assim desde o início e acho que isso é parte de sua integridade e de sua força", diz Katzenberg. "No final, entenderemos como Shrek chegou ao pântano. BUTLER É INTOCÁVEL

Gerard Butler, o astro escocês do filme 300, assinou para estrelar o prelúdio de OS INTOCÁVEIS, sucesso de Brian De Palma de 1987. Butler fará o papel de Jimmy Malone em THE UNTOUCHABLES: CAPONE RISING, papel original de Sean Connery. Laura Vandervoort is Supergirl in Smallville, and Michael Cassidy now plays Grant Gabriel, editor of The Daily Planet.

Vandervoort, 22, is another Canadian actress for Smallville (the show is filmed in Vancouver) where she joins Kristin Kreuk and Erica Durance.

From Toronto, she has dozens of television credits, most notably on the cable series Instant Star, and she guest-starred in an episode of Mutant X.

Supergirl arrives in the Season 7 premiere. Her name is Kara and she is Clark's 19-year-old cousin. She was born on Krypton and is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El's brother.

Kara possesses all of Clark's powers and one he doesn't yet have - flying.

Kara also has a strong, rebellious streak that puts her at odds with Clark, and puts her onto Lex's radar. In addition, she takes a romantic interest in Jimmy Olsen.

Cassidy's character, Grant Gabriel, will be a hot-shot young editor who is brought in "to the get the gray out" of The Daily Planet and make it more accessible to younger readers. He will be featured in a seven-episode arc taking place in the first 10 episodes of Season 7.

Jolies fará shows em São Paulo em julho

Dando seqüência à Tour 2007, a banda Jolies, de São Leopoldo (Rio Grande do Sul), segue para São Paulo dia 25 de julho para uma série de shows. São três apresentações confirmadas na capital paulista, além de entrevistas em rádios da cidade. Em São Paulo, a banda tocará nas casas noturnas Toy Lounge (27), Espaço Germinal (28) e Villa Rock (28), dividindo o palco com as bandas locais.

O objetivo da tour é de divulgar ainda mais o EP "Refúgio Imaginário", lançado em novembro passado e relançado em julho de 2007, com a regravação da música de trabalho da Jolies, Tequila a Dois. Ainda no mês de julho, a banda comemorou dois anos de existência no Dia Mundial do Rock, dia 13.

Harry Potter Publisher Sues Over Breach

The United States publisher of J.K. Rowling's latest book Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows is suing two companies who broke a sales embargo on the novel.

Scholastic has filed suit in Illinois against DeepDiscount.com and book distributor Levy Entertainment for allowing customers to purchase the book before its official publication date of July 21.

Scholastic are seeking unspecified damages from the two firms for "complete and flagrant violation of the agreements that they knew were part of the carefully constructed release of this eagerly awaited book." A statement from DeepDiscount.com's parent company Infinity Resources reads, "We take the situation very seriously and are conducting an internal investigation."

Gavin Hood to Direct Wolverine!

20th Century Fox has set Gavin Hood to direct Hugh Jackman in Wolverine, the X-Men spinoff that was written by David Benioff. The film, which begins production in November for a 2008 release, will be produced by Lauren Shuler-Donner, Jackman and his Seed Productions partner John Palermo.

Hood is the South African director whose 2005 film Tsotsi won the foreign film Oscar. His next film, the thriller Rendition with Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, opens on October 12.

Using several resources that include the Marvel Comics lore, along with the more recent Weapon X graphic novels, Wolverine mixes action with an origin story about how Logan emerged from a barbaric experiment as an indestructible mutant with retractable razor-sharp claws.

After three X-Men films grossed over $1 billion worldwide, the studio has made Wolverine a top priority.

"I have long been a fan of Gavin's work and know he will make a masterful film with the character intensity and action beats the fans expect," said Jackman.

Devido o quantitativo de 28 reclamações formalizadas, o Procon/GO autuou a empresa Import Express Comercial Importadora – Tecnomania, distribuidora da máquina fotográfica “Tek Pix", com sede à Av. Ibirapuera, 2782, Setor Moema, São Paulo-SP.

De acordo com as denúncias, a propaganda veiculada diz que o produto apresenta diversas vantagens, porém, quando chega às mãos dos consumidores, nota-se claramente a divergência com a publicidade feita.

Dentre as características que não correspondem à realidade, a máquina não funciona em lugares escuros (não possui Flash) e tampouco funciona como filmadora.

“Além disso, a empresa não oferece meios de os consumidores efetuarem a devolução do produto de acordo com a legislação”, esclarece Antônio Carlos de Lima.

Conforme explica o superintendente do órgão, a reclamada não atende contatos via telefone e correspondência efetuados pelos técnicos da entidade, bem como não compareceu a nenhuma audiência de conciliação marcada para tentar solucionar os processos já em trâmite, e que gerarão julgamento e multa.

Para apurar as denúncias, foi instaurado através de Portaria processo administrativo coletivo visando averiguação dos fatos, e aplicação de pena de interdição caso a empresa não regularize a situação dos 28 consumidores do Procon e suspenda a veiculação do anúncio, em rede nacional até que este se adeque à realidade do produto.

Caso haja interesse da reclamada para resolver esse problema, a defesa deverá ser por escrito e posteriormente será firmado um Termo de Ajustamento de Conduta para solução dos casos apresentados pelos consumidores. Dessa maneira, o Procon-GO busca uma negociação a fim de gerar um equilíbrio na relação de consumo, vez que o consumidor é a parte mais vulnerável na forma da legislação.

O Mundo Rock de Calcinha é programa de rádio on-line, também disponível em podcast, com músicas de bandas de rock e metal formadas somente por meninas ou com mulheres no vocal (nacionais e internacionais). Também das bandas que possuam alguma integrante instrumentista: baixista, guitarrista, baterista, tecladista. Genius Entertainment and The Weinstein Co. have revealed full details for Factory Girl. In the mid-1960s, wealthy debutant Edie Sedgwick (Sienna Miller) meets artist Andy Warhol (Guy Pearce) and becomes his muse. Though she seems to have it all, Edie cannot have the love she craves and she has an affair with a charismatic musician (Hayden Christensen) who pushes her to seek independence from Warhol and his Factory.

Due on July 17th, the film will be presented uncut and unrated with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 track.

You see there is this whole movement out there that believes your phone should be YOURS, not Apples, not MS's, not anyone elses. I believe Nokia is getting there with the N800, but they are not quite there (ie: N800 is not really a phone). Well fear not, the people at Openmoko are taking that challenge on. A totally opensource GSM 2.5G world phone. You buy it and it's yours to do with whatever you wish. It runs linux, but since even the processor is pretty much open, you can write your own OS for it (ok, so maybe that's a bit far fetched). The standard phone and dev kit costs $300, or you can buy the hacker pack (includes a debug board, second battery, case) for $450. No contract, no limits, no locks. I just can't figure out the Matrix reference (Neo) and it's relation to 1973 (was that a good year?).....

John Travolta: it's okay to be gay!

Hairspray director Adam Shankman has hit back at a journalist who is proposing a boycott of the film because its star John Travolta has "no business" playing an iconic gay character.

The Pulp Fiction actor stars as super-sized woman Edna Turnblad in the latest adaptation of the kitsch musical, angering the editor of gay newspaper Washington Blade, Kevin Naff. Naff claims Travolta should never have been cast in the role because his religion Scientology is "homophobic."

But Hairspray filmmaker Shankman is astonished by Naff's claims, insisting Travolta has "no problem with people being gay." He says, "I am stunned this has gotten that far. He (Naff) has made the dumbest claims on the entire planet. Everybody involved in Hairspray - all the creators are gay. So John has no problem with people being gay - me, the writers, composer, John Waters - all gay. John's personal beliefs never walked onto my set. I never heard the word Scientology."

O processo, segundo a advogada de Caubói, Juliana Zappala, é por danos morais, devido aos vários comentários ofensivos e injuriosos dirigidos ao mineiro pela apresentadora Sônia Abrão em seu programa, A Tarde É Sua. “Alberto sofreu prejuízos durante o reality show em função dos comentários que Sônia teceu em seu programa. Dois deles aconteceram antes do dia 20 de março, data em que ele saiu do programa global. Já a terceira foi depois que ele saiu”, diz a advogada.

O processo de nº 2007.01.1.071556-6 se encontra na 18° Vara Cível do Fórum de Brasília. Ainda de acordo com a advogada de Alberto, o próximo passo é aguardar a contestação da RedeTV!

Sônia Abrão disse desconhecer a ação na justiça. "O procedimento de um caso como este vai primeiro para o departamento jurídico da empresa."

Questionada sobre o fato de o programa A Tarde É Sua ser co-produzido entre RedeTV! e Câmera Cinco, produtora de Elias Abraão, irmão de Sônia, a advogada explica que a Lei de Imprensa diz que a responsabilidade é da emissora de tevê que veicula o programa.

The Audio/Visual Xplosion has officially announced the lineup of artists that will perform at the festival’s debut event being held at four venues in Chicago, IL from August 15th to 18th. The Audio/Visual Xplosion of A/V Xplo was created by Paul Heintz of the Chicago melodic rock outfit Midstates. The Xplo will have multiple music acts and DJs as well as the best in underground art. Instead of converting the art gallery into a music hall, the clubs are being converted into art space.

Four venues, four days, and over 100 visual artists will constitute this year's A/V Xplo from August 15-18. Tony Vega, local independent film and video writer/producer/director, is coordinating the artists. Each venue will feature at least 25 artists showing their best work all over the venues. Tony and Paul have designated a Captain for each evening to help facilitate the art layout and display. Angel Ledezma, drummer of Midstates, will Captain at the Empty Bottle on Wednesday, August 15; Dan Chambers, former A/V Xplo art director, will Captain the Double Door on Thursday, August 16; Eric Morris, bassist of Midstates and silkscreen artist will Captain the Subterranean on Friday, August 17 (18 and over); and former A/V Xplo art director Jessica Wagner, will Captain the finale at the Abbey Pub on Saturday, August 18 (6pm start / 18 and over).

Twenty-nine music groups as well as nine DJs will perform. Batman: The Dark Knight Teaser Debuts in Two Weeks!

There have been rumors circulating around the normal internet circles that Warner Bros. won't have anything related to the Batman sequel, The Dark Knight, ready to go for the San Diego Comic-Con.

Well, guess what? That isn't so.

OTP has just received confirmation from one of our most reliable sources that Warner Bros. plans on debuting a teaser in front of some screenings of 20th Century Fox's The Simpsons Movie on July 27, which just so happens to be the same day as the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Don't be too surprised if they decide to spring an unannounced premiere of the teaser for The Dark Knight sometime during that 10:30 AM panel.

It's late at night when our Traveller ends up his working day and goes to bed. He feels very sad because everything seems to go bad in his life. When he close his eyes it seems that all his problems stop to hunt him. But when he falls asleep he starts a trip lead by the Wizard of the Dreams to find the Stairway to Wonderland. The Stairway is hidden by his sorrow and he must face the root of his pain to find the way to happiness...

The story of if began in the early '90s, thanks to Claudio Lapenna and Dario Lastella, two classmates at the hi-school "G.Perrotta". The two friends had the same passion for the music, so an artistic collaboration began. Early bass player Franco Bussoli, a Dario's friend from childhood, joined the band. Little after drummer Pietro Chimisso joined too: if was born.

After earliest times of musical training as a cover band, Claudio and Dario wanted to write their own songs to play them live. So in concert if began to play a mixed set made of their own music and covers (especially from Pink Floyd and Queen). But live performances were not enough: if began recording their first demos and even if results were not good, a new way was open. In 1995 Dario went to the University, so the band could not play together with continuity.

Franco and Pietro began to play in the blues trio "Riverside", while Claudio and Dario were starting new musical projects. But if experience didn't end: the band became a "studio band" and started to record the old songs written the years before. This change was necessary because the organization of live performances had got very difficult (meanwhile Pietro went to the University too), but recording was more simple. But after some year the band went down: Pietro and Franco were more interested in the "Riverside" than in if, and Claudio and Dario began to dedicate their energies in the new "Chawl Anka & The Piattolers" project.

There was a lack of enthusiasm and of energy and an attempt to re-organize the band for a live performance in the summer of 2001 failed. if re-born only in 2004: Dario decided to leave Italy, but before he went away, he talked to Claudio and Franco about a project of re-recording old stuff. The two friends went in the project enthusiastically so the recording of "In the cave" started in March 2004. The project involved a new singer too, Paolo De Santis, an old friend of the band. In August of 2004 "In the cave" was ready and immediately the band started the recording of the "if".

Meanwhile Dario moves to Spain where he attended a master in Musical Production, Paolo still lives in Milan, where he works for TV dubbing, Claudio moves to Taranto and just Franco still lives in Petacciato. Despite of logistic problems, the four friends ended up the recording of if in summer of 2005, with singer Elena Ricci and cello player Luca Tilli as guest stars. The record had a good success and the song "I wish" reached #1 on IACmusic.com Classical Charts where topped the score for months, while "You" from "In the cave" was nominated to the IAIA Golden Kayak Awards. In August the magazine Primonumero awarded if as the best web-band of the area. The band started with enthusiasm to work on the new project "The Stairway" that was released at the finale of 2006.

Don't mind the distance: friendship and unity can make a band from four musicians anyway!

Tintin in the Congo, which has often been panned for Herge’s neo-colonialist attitude, has been removed from the children’s section of Borders stores in the UK due to the supposed racist content.

The Commission for Racial Equality said yesterday it was unacceptable for any shop to stock or sell the 1930s cartoon adventure of the Belgian boy journalist because of its crude racial stereotypes.

The book, which includes a scene where Tintin is made chief of an African village because he is a “good white man” and a black woman bowing to Tintin saying: “White man very great … white mister is big juju man!” was highly offensive, a spokeswoman from the commission said.

“This book contains imagery and words of hideous racial prejudice, where the ’savage natives’ look like monkeys and talk like imbeciles,” she said.

Despite the complaints that the book should be removed, Borders announced it would move the offending tome to the adult section and let adult readers make up their minds.

Everyone finds comfort in categories. Stringing together a list of musical styles or genres - say modern classical, free jazz and acid rock – provides a general basis for discussion and understanding. Most music is created around a structure that is a direct descendant of one or more such musical styles. As a result, the shorthand of such style references is often quite appropriate. With Random Touch, however, structure is sourced internally, so that the unconscious takes center stage. The result is a dreamy, hypnotic, and otherworldly sort of music that seems to float, free of gravity, continuously on the verge of cohesion and collapse.

Random Touch founders Christopher Brown and James Day have an old and synergistic relationship that began with collaborations in high school (an original rock opera) and college (commissioned multi-media piece Broken Glass among others). Brown and Day first collaborated with member Scott Hamill (guitar) in 1978 and member Matthew Ebbin (camera) in 1998. In addition to music, the visual arts have been an integral part of their work over the years. To Random Touch they are all vibration. Whether videotaping the tight, electric frequency of the color violet or recording the long and lazy thrum of a hammered steel girder, it is all raw material, ready for the alchemy of transmutation.

2007 marks their seventh package, Alchemy (CD/DVD). Cinematic, emotionally charged music fuels the all too short 68 minute CD. Haunting, dreamlike music videos, live performances, talking heads and expansive menus inhabit the two hour DVD. DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures' co-production Transformers set an industry record for a non-sequel of $155.4 million in its opening week, surpassing the previous record held by the original Spider Man in 2002. In addition, during its first full day of release on Tuesday, July 3, Transformers grossed $27.8 million, the biggest Tuesday in industry history, surpassing the second "Pirates of the Caribbean" adventure. The following day, July 4th, the Michael Bay-directed action adventure posted another industry best for the holiday of $29 million, outstripping Spider-Man 2 in 2004.

For DreamWorks and Paramount, Transformers' three-day debut of $70.5 million was the top non-sequel and top live-action film ever. This propelled Paramount over the $1 billion mark in domestic gross in 189 days, the earliest any studio has reached that benchmark in a calendar year. The year 2007 will be Paramount's highest grossing since 1998, when it reached $1.046 billion, a figure that will be surpassed by the end of the coming weekend.

Over the past week, Paramount reclaimed its status as the #1 studio in market share, which it held earlier in the year, from April 21 to May 3. In addition, Transformers was DreamWorks' fourth straight #1 opening film following Norbit, Blades of Glory and Disturbia.

R.I.P. Kerwin Matthews, Harryhausen's "Sinbad"

Kerwin Matthews who battled such creatures as evil giants and mythical monsters on the silver screen, passed away at the age of 81.

Born on January 8, 1926, Mr. Matthews got his first major break in an episode of the tv show, "Space Patrol" which led to roles on "Playhouse 90" and "The Ford Playhouse Theater."

His talents led him to co-star in such feature films as the underrated "Five Against the House" and "Tarawa Beachead," but it was "The Seventh Voyage Of Sinbad" that we all remember him from as Sinbad battling such monsters as the Roc, the cyclops and the living skeleton.

Among other of his fantasy titles are "Jack the Giant Killer," "The Three Worlds Of Gulliver" and "Battle Beneath the Earth."

Though he did portray solid roles in "The Devil At Four O'Clock" and "Man On a String," he did his best in such films as "Octaman" and "The Boy Who Cried Werewolf" because he enjoyed acting.

He retired from movies in the late seventies and opened a clothing store in the San Francisco Bay area because it was time for a change. On acting, he had no regrets and enjoyed every minute of it.

Character Actor Charles Lane Dies at 102

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - Charles Lane, the prolific character actor whose name was little known, but whose bespectacled face and crotchety persona made him instantly recognizable to generations of movie-goers, has died, his son said Tuesday. He was 102.

The actor's son, Tom Lane, said he was talking with his father Monday evening. "He was lying in bed with his eyes real wide open," the younger Lane said. "Then he closed his eyes and stopped breathing."

Lane, whose career spanned more than 60 years, appeared in such film classics as "It's a Wonderful Life,""Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" and "Twentieth Century." He also had a recurring role as the scheming railroad man, Homer Beadle, on the 1960s TV sitcom "Petticoat Junction" and appeared often on television's "I Love Lucy."

His crisp, stage-trained voice and no-nonsense appearance made him a natural for playing authority figures. He was a judge in "God is My Partner," a prosecutor in "Call Northside 777," a priest in "Date With an Angel" and a member of Clark Gable's newspaper editorial board in "Teacher's Pet."

In 1934, Frank Capra, then on his rise to eminence, cast Lane in a horse racing film, "Broadway Bill." Capra liked the actor's work so much he included him in nine more movies, including "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and "You Can't Take It with You". In Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life," he was a rent collector who shocks his boss, the evil Lionel Barrymore character, by telling him that hero James Stewart's character is a good businessman.

One of Lane's most cherished possessions was a letter from the fabled director declaring, "Well, Charlie, you've been my No. 1 crutch."

Lane continued to act into his 90s, and when he accepted an award from cable television's TV Land channel in honor of his 100th birthday, he made a point of saying he was still available for work.

In the 1931 film "Manhattan Parade," shown last month on Turner Classic Movies, Lane could be glimpsed in one of the opening scenes, playing a desk clerk waiting on a customer. The brief, uncredited bit was one of his first film appearances.

He was especially fond of his role in the "I Love Lucy" episode in which Lucy Ricardo gave birth to her son, Little Ricky. Papa Ricky (Ball's real-life husband, Desi Arnaz) was all nerves while Lane, as a fellow expectant father, was the picture of calm. "This old guy was expecting his 10th child or something, and this nervous young man was expecting his first," Lane recalled in 2005. "It was a marvelous scene, and Desi was a fine actor."

Norwegian hacker says he can bypass AT&T on iPhone

A well-known hacker claims to have overcome restrictions on Apple Inc.'s iPhone, allowing highly technical users to bypass AT&T Inc.'s network to use the phone's Internet and music features.

In a post dated July 3 on his blog, Jon Johansen, 23, a prolific hacker of consumer electronics gadgets since he was a teenager in Norway, said "I've found a way to activate a brand new unactivated iPhone" without signing up for AT&T service. "The iPhone does not have phone capability, but the iPod and Wi-Fi work. Stay tuned!" he wrote on his long-running blog, which is combatively named "So Sue Me." The post was entitled "iPhone Independence Day," a play on the July 4 U.S. holiday.

The site contained technical details for other hackers, as well as links to software necessary to complete the process.

One potential use would be for an iPhone user living or traveling outside the United States to access the iPhone's music player and Internet service over Wi-Fi connections without using the phone.

AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said it was necessary to activate the iPhone on AT&T's network to ensure optimum performance. Using the phone without AT&T's two-year service contract was unauthorized under the phone carrier's exclusive network service contract with Apple, Siegel added. "Any other use of the device is not authorized and we can't guarantee the device will perform as intended to. We'll monitor situations like this and if necessary we will take appropriate action," he said. "Our terms and conditions are very clear". He did not elaborate on potential action AT&T might take.

Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris declined to comment on Johansen's claims.

Apple has yet to reveal network operator deals in markets outside the United States. But the iPhone is a quad-band GSM phone and will work in many parts of Europe and Asia with international roaming deals arranged by AT&T, Kerris said.

Neither Apple nor AT&T have disclosed sales figures since the iPhone went on sale in the United States on June 29, but some analysts have estimated sales of up to 700,000 units for the costly coveted phone's first weekend on the market.

Johansen became known as "DVD Jon" earlier this decade for helping to reverse engineer the code used to protect DVD movies against piracy, saying he did so in order to play them on his Linux computer. The computer activist has engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with Apple to bypass copyright controls on various Apple products, including QuickTime, iTunes and Apple TV.

Co-founder of Matchbox Toys dies

The co-founder of Matchbox Toys, Jack Odell, has died, aged 87.

The engineer moved into the toy trade after joining a die-casting company that had moved into toy production. His daughter inspired the creation of his most famous invention in 1948 after her school only allowed her to take in an item that would fit into a matchbox. The miniature green and red road roller he developed for her to show off to friends became the forerunner of the Matchbox Toy empire.

Among the firm's most famous designs was a miniature Coronation coach, made to commemorate Queen Elizabeth's succession to the throne, which sold about a million copies.

Matchbox was floated on the Stock Exchange in 1960 and in 1968 Mr Odell and business partner Leslie Smith were awarded MBEs.

Mr Smith died in May 2005, also aged 87.

Highly collectable

The business was reported to be selling more than one million cars a day in to more than 100 countries at its peak as low prices made them affordable to children. Matchbox items are still produced, though by US firm Mattel, after Matchbox Toys went into receivership in 1982. Mr Odell then established his own firm, buying some of the die-casting machinery from the receivers. He sold up in 1996 with another of Matchbox's rivals Corgi later buying the brand names and continuing to make some of the products.

Some Matchbox items have become highly collectable. Its version of the Mercedes Benz 230S, bought for less than three shillings (15 pence) in 1968, was sold at auction in 1999 for £4,100.

Quando o filme dos Simpsons chegar ao Brasil, os fãs sentirão falta de uma coisa: o dublador Waldyr Sant'Anna, que fazia a dublagem de Homer, foi afastado do longa-metragem. Sant'Anna também deixará de fazer a dublagem da série, exibida pelo canal Fox e pela Rede Globo.

Sant'Anna dublou Homer Simpson nas primeiras sete temporadas de Os Simpsons, retornando a partir do 15º ano da série.

O motivo do afastamento do dublador é um processo que ele move contra a 20th Century Fox por não-pagamento e o uso não autorizado de sua voz nos DVDs da série. A notícia foi publicada no final de maio pelo site OhaYO!

Eis a nota de Sant'Anna justificando sua saída:

Agradeço profundamente emocionado todas as demonstrações de descontentamento pela minha substituição na série e no longa-metragem dos Simpsons. Estou sendo penalizado e até condenado por alguns, pelo fato de ter tido a coragem de cobrar o que nossa legislação garante, o que ao longo dos últimos 50 anos os distribuidores de filmes insistem em desrespeitar e a pressão econômica exercida pelo capital estrangeiro nos obriga a aceitar, ou não sobreviver deste trabalho caso se rebele.

Segundo o site Omelete, a nova voz de Homer será de Carlos Alberto, ator, radialista e ex-apresentador do canal SporTV.

Como se não bastasse, a FOX solta esse comunicado oficial:

"O Canal FOX no Brasil vem por meio deste informar que, após constatar que a maioria dos nossos telespectadores prefere assistir a programação do canal na forma dublada em português, a partir desse mês o sinal do canal FOX está sendo transmitido totalmente nesse formato. Em paralelo, a FOX está trabalhando junto às operadoras de televisão por assinatura para atender aos que preferem assistir a programação da FOX no idioma original e, por conseqüência, com as legendas."

Ou seja, Dexter, 24, Prison Break e outros serão todos dublados.

Laser em HD torna disco 100 vezes mais veloz

Pesquisadores exibiram um experimento que usa laser para gravar dados em discos magnéticos. O estudo é conduzido pelo professor Daniel Stanciu, da universidade holandesa de Radboud. Stanciu publicou artigo na revista Science descrevendo a nova tecnologia.

Segundo Stanciu, o experimento baseia-se em mudar a composição de discos magnéticos para que seja possível gravar informações nos HDs usando apenas "flashs" de raio laser. Sua equipe obteve sucesso em usar um canhão laser para escrever dados em discos magnéticos de composição ligeiramente modificada. Os discos do experimento tinham mais ferro e cobalto que HDs comerciais.

O experimento dispensa o uso de cabos para transmitir as informações do HD para o processador ou outros componentes do PC. O canhão laser realiza esta tarefa. Os pesquisadores afirmam que esta tecnologia pode tornar até 100 vezes mais rápidas as operações para gravar e acessar dados no disco rígido.

O canhão laser usado no experimento, no entanto, é muito diferente de canhões do tipo usados em eletrônicos ópticos. Para ser eficaz, o canhão deve ser sofisticado e capaz de emitir pulsos de luz de forma muitíssimo veloz (um quadrilhão de vezes por segundo), o que tornaria muito caro o uso comercial desta tecnologia.

Stanciu avalia que só será possível explorar comercialmente a tecnologia num espaço de dez anos.

The band was founded in 1994 by Antonio Facchini (guitar), Davide Lamagni (drums), Marco Baldini (bass, who left the band one year later), Massimo Pirotti (keyboard) and Matteo Grazioli (vocals). But things really started in 1996. With the bass is temporary in the hands of Matteo, they write their first songs: "L'Ospite dei Sogni" and "La Luna e il Cavaliere".

In this same year, Alessandro joins the band at the vocals, helping to compose a new song ("Immagine Riflessa") and finding the name for the band: AUICADA, the anagram of the scientific name of a tropical bird.

The band gives his first performance live at the "Cashbah" in Pegognaga - MN.
Matteo decides to leave the group, but Marco, spectator of the first live performance of Auticada, takes the decision to come back in the band.

In 2004, after 10 years of collaboration, Antonio Facchini, one of the founder of the band, decides to leave, being replaced by Massimo Piasenti. Thank to the new definitive line-up, the group takes home the victory from the Portiolo live festival and starts recording their first CD, Aurea, released under the Videoradio label.

O contrato da ex-BBB Irislene Stefanelli com a TV Globo venceu e a emissora já disse: não vai renovar. Sem chance de ser uma global, Siri agora fala em trabalhar na TV "independentemente do canal". Entretanto, a rejeitada pela TV Globo não está em fase de teste na RedeTV!, conforme rumores no meio artístico. Ao menos é o que informa a assessoria de imprensa do canal.

Corre nos bastidores da emissora que Íris está sendo sondada para o programa "TV Fama", da RedeTV!, no lugar da atual apresentadora Adriana Lessa. A assessoria informa, porém, que o contrato de Adriana vai até outubro e que "a RedeTV! cumpre os contratos até o fim".

Funcionários da emissora afirmam que gravações de um piloto para a atração com Íris poderiam causar "mal-estar" com a apresentadora, pois, com a estrutura compacta da RedeTV!, todos ficariam sabendo rapidamente.

Sobre a sondagem de Siri para integrar o casting da RedeTV!, o assessor de imprensa Paulo Vieira afirma que "a direção artística da emissora não fez nenhum comunicado".

Vieira, que também é assessor de Adriana, diz que é cedo para pensar em renovação de contrato. "Ainda estamos em junho e a emissora só deve entrar nesse assunto no fim de agosto."

This amazing performance captured by German Television's premier rock show production team has rarely been seen until now. Formed in 1969 by the guitarist Leslie West and bassist/producer Felix Pappalardi, Mountain became one of the highest grossing rock acts on the music scene between the years 1969 and 1972. Sadly, Pappalardi died in 1983. In 1985 the band reformed and were asked to play on the Deep Purple European tour. Walt Ribeiro will once again break new ground. The composer will create 12 bone-crushing orchestral ‘music webisodes’, which he calls ‘Musodes’. All together the 12 stories will create his second CD, titled ‘I.II’(pronounced one point two) and will visually tell the story behind his music.

Here’s how it will work: In the way that previous CD’s have blended music with video, Ribeiro will do so but as a fully interactive webisode on his website www.waltribeiro.net and his Youtube channel ‘waltribeiro’. In October his first music webisode, or ‘musode’, will introduce every character and set up the musical journey, revealing what the music is about. Then every 3 weeks for the next 9 months, Ribeiro will release a new musode to continue the epic story. Listeners will also be able to tune into his Podcast, and everything (Music, Orchestral Scores, etc.) will be free on his website and his music will be licensed under Creative Commons.

This acts as the closing, and second half to his previous CD – and now the melodies he was hinting at will finally unfold!

Right next to his video will be his music store, where his audience/viewers will be able to download the music/scores/files of that musode immediately, and send donations if they choose. Fans of the show will also be able to instantly order the physical CD (w/ no video) by late 2007.

“I’m extremely excited about this! I want my audience to be a part of this as much as they want to be a part of this. Also, I dislike the idea of releasing one or two ‘singles’ in order to promote a CD. This model allows every piece on my CD to act as a ‘single’ - the way I want it to be. I worked extremely hard on this work, and like my previous CD, I am thrilled with it!”

Five fast iPhone impressions

Your Mac Life host Shawn King got his hands on Apple’s iPhone prior to the Friday-at-6-p.m. launch. Does it live up to the hype? Of course it doesn’t — it couldn’t possibly. As David Platt, a computer science professor at Harvard University, remarked to Reuters, “God himself could not design a device that could live up to all the hype.”

But, when you separate the wheat from the chaff, fact from fiction, hope from hype, it turns out the iPhone really is an amazing product given all that it is required to do.

Here are five things King noticed after using the phone this week:

The iPhone offers an amazing resolution, with a clear, bright screen, and organic-looking buttons and an interface with all kinds of visual cues to let you know what you can and can’t do. For example, when viewing photos, you scroll with a finger flick to the left and right. But what happens when you try to scroll up and down? If nothing happened, you’d think there was something wrong. So instead, Apple has made it so the image moves up a couple of centimeters but “bounces” quickly back down. In other words, it lets you know the phone recognized your action but also shows you the action cannot be done. Also, the “finger pinch” action for zooming in on things will make you smile the first few times you do it.

I have always said that I can’t be bothered watching videos on my iPod video — at 2.5 inches, the screen is just too small. But now that the iPhone offers a 3.5-inch screen that offers widescreen viewing? I will happily leave my laptop in the overhead bin on long flights and watch movies and TV shows on the iPhone. They look that good.

For me, the most important feature of the iPhone is the Web browsing — and that’s where a lot of people will be disappointed. AT&T’s EDGE network is as slow as everyone says it is — going to even the simplest Web page takes minutes. But if you are on a Wi-Fi network, things are relatively speedy.

Make no mistake, even if Apple claims the experience is not a “watered down version” of the internet, it most certainly is. There are a lot of things we take for granted, Internet wise, that the iPhone can’t do and, if those things are important to you, this may not be the browsing experience you are looking for.

So you’re not going to throw away your laptop in favor of browsing on the iPhone. But you will use the Net features for quick information hits while you’re in an airport, stuck on a bus, in class, and so forth. It is fun, easy, and organic.

I was disappointed to learn that the iPhone will not wirelessly sync with your Mac but syncing is still fairly easy. As with your iPod, just connecting your iPhone begins the simple process.

Apple has next to no information regarding the features of the iPhone’s camera — and for good reason. It’s “just” a 2-megapixel camera phone with all the limitations of any other camera phone — it has no flash, no zoom and, while the entire screen becomes the viewfinder (making pictures look great), it does a poor job of capturing motion or images in low-light conditions.

Is the iPhone revolutionary? Apple says so, and it is — if you think a cell phone, Web browser and iPod all combined are revolutionary.

But it goes farther than that. A lot of people believe the iPhone is another platform for Apple. In that regard, it will be a revolution for Apple and open a whole other market for the company.

The iPhone is not the “Perfect Device.” But it is a darn cool piece of technology that does a lot of things surprisingly well. And, for those of you waiting for “Version 2.0,” it will only get better.
