New CDS, 45s available for download, spring recording news, & Max turns 5!

March 21st saw the release of MR016, Big Silver’s 11 song album, Afterlife. An album that nearly didn’t happen, Afterlife is now sure to find fast friends with anyone looking for great pop songs. As per usual, shop for it at your favorite record store or directly via the Max online store.

Kevin Kerby’s solo debut, The Secret Lives Of All Night Radios, continues to garner praise. You can find a nice review here from SCTAS’s Ridge Bardo. Also, a heartfelt German review here (mega-songs!), or there’s this great Q&A up on the ever popular online rag, Localist.

Also, The Trusty CD, Sugar Smack , is moving closer & closer to a solid release date. As of now, it should land somewhere in June or July. This 9 song album will mark the band’s first new songs since their days with the Dischord label, but will also include seven songs previously unreleased from the pre-D.C. years.

The entire 45 singles catalog from Max is now available for download from iTunes. We’ve compiled for your convenience and given them a classy new title, The Complete 45 Singles Collection. Of course, you can also find them by searching by the artist / band name as well.

Spring seems to be bringing in the new songs. Both the Big Cats and Sugar & The Raw will be in the studio during April. The Big Cats will continue work on a new album, and will also be playing out with Smoke Up Johnny & The Good Fear on April 14th at Vinos. Sugar & The Raw will take breaks from recording to play shows at Sticky Fingerz April 14th, UALR on April 21st and again at Midtown on April 29th.

Lastly, and this one nearly snuck up on us, Max Recordings will be celebrating it’s 5th birthday next month. A twentieth of a century on, with sixteen releases to show, and Max rolls right along. To mark the occasion we’ll be throwing a party at Sticky Fingerz on Friday, May 5th. Check the poster below for all the details (click to enlarge). Hope to see all of you there!

THE ODDS & SODS

The American Princes release their 3rd album, titled Less & Less , today – which marks their debut for the Chapel Hill based Yep Roc label.
