Level Records’ first release, Quartett EP, opened up with “Millepieds” by Oliver Hacke. The sixth release on Level now sports five Artists who use their individual techniques and remix approaches on Hacke’s acclaimed track. On A1, Slg extracts an incredible funkyness from the original material that won’t leave anybody unmoved. Although its sounds are all based on the original, Slg’s approach is very different yet funky as hell and deep at the same time. People who already know his EP on Level might be reminded of his highly regarded „Anymore“-Track which features a similar kind of bassline.
A2 by the Mexican artist Fax is a very surprising remix. It starts off with very grounded groovy loops with a quite solid feel, sustaining in a traditional micro-house manner until unexpectedly, beautifullymodulated, dreamy chords emerge from the solid base groove. Surprises like this make many of Fax’ tracks so special.
Side B starts with labelhead Daniel Fritschi who creates a track which does only loosely refer to
his previous releases. Daniel picks up the slightly dark mood of the original, develops it to a nicely grounded sequence and garnishes it with a grooving bassline plus dubs.
Anders Ilars remix can be regarded as an appetizer for his forthcoming EP on Level. He builds up a dense and beautiful athmosphere which feels like wide spaces, populated by millions of gentle clicks, all kept together by the warm and dominant bassline of the Millepieds original.
The final track by Jeff Milligan is a more free interpretation of the original, focused on the dominant, beautiful warm chords, sparkling beats and hihats cutting sharp like scalpels.

"Level Records has only put out 4 releases so far but they've been of such exceptionally high quality that I always eagerly await a new one. This doesn't disappoint at all and, in fact, could easily be my favourite 12" so far. The deepest of Techno grooves with subtle, shining chord sequences made up of gentle sinewave sounds plus funky, House influenced beats that have just enough shuffle to groove it whilst remaining true to their Techno roots. "Nein, das hätte ich nicht erwartet, weder von Level Rec. noch von Fax, obwohl ich beiden viel zutraue. Diese Platte ist einfach von Anfang bis Ende perfekt und dabei so subtil clickernd minimal, so verzaubert bis in die leisesten Soundtupfer, dass man vor Freude gleich nach Mexicali möchte um zu sehen ob das wirklich so unglaublich ist. 4 Tracks die einem das Herz stehlen um es einem durch die Ohren als Geschenk sofort wieder mit grossen Augen zurückzugeben.

"One thing Level is doing very right is in their graphic design. Each 12” thus far has been a stunning piece of art. The third release is the gem, thus far, depicting on its front cover what seems to be a confluence of electrical wires, a street lamp, and an unidentified solar flare. The music within is a sort of digital dub house—the music Pole might have made if he was more interested in dancefloors than hookahs. The melodies are slightly warmer than that comparison might imply, but the music is exactly as innocuous. "Eine der deepesten minimal EPs die Düsseldorf in den letzten Monaten verlassen hat ist mit Sicherheit diese neue Platte auf Level Rec, das sich mehr und mehr auf die Zeiten zurückbesinnt, in denen man aus einer Position der Ruhe Musik entstehen lässt, die soviele Dimensionen hat, dass einem alles andere egal wird. Bei „Adrift“ auf A2 kommt eine schöne Detroit-Anleihe der Marke Aril Brikha zum Vorschein, während „Interglacial“ auf B2 vor allem die Freunde experimenteller Clubmusik ansprechen dürfte. "A promising debut release from this Dusseldorf label features four artists: Oliver Hacke, Andy Vaz, Rhythm_Maker and Daniel Fritschi. Hacke unleashes some dark funk to kick things off nicely, while Vaz weighs in with some of his signature dark atmospherics to very strong effect. The second side is a more laid-back affair with rhythm_maker’s acoustic bass and sweeping chords, tempered by Frischi’s very Dettinger-like closer. Keep on eye on Frischi, it’ll be easy with a forthcoming 12” on this very label. His woozy track is the gem here, amid some very good stuff. "Aus Düsseldorf kommt dieses neue Label, das dann auch gleich erst mal 4 der zentralen Düsseldorfer featured. Oliver Hacke, Rhythm_maker, Andy Vaz und Daniel Fritschi. Hacke ist ungewohnt verhallt und deep für diese EP mit seinem Track "Millepieds", der flüsternd und knisternd immer mehr Weite in die Hallräume packt und darin herumwirbelt mit leichten Melodien aus unwahrscheinlichen Toms. Andy Vaz hat ein paar Plugins zum Frühstück in den Cornflakes gehabt und lässt sich die nun aus den Kanten rollen, Rhythm_Maker ist, wie eigentlich immer, verliebt und so deep, dass man jeden Sound klingeln hört, und Daniel Fritschi schließt die EP mit einem sehr eleganten melodischen Dub ab.
